Event info

The ropes self rescue course is back! We've run this course for the past few years and it's always been really popular.

If you are planning on going to the Cornwall meet, you may want to consider going if you haven't. I know I and many other people have used the skills learnt on this course when we've been in Cornwall!

Location: Dancing ledge, Swanage

Topics that may be covered:

  • Ascending a rope safely
  • Descending ropes safely
  • Abseiling with an injured climber
  • Assisted pulleys
  • Tying off belays plates
  • Lowering past a knot

Please bring with you:

  • Good approach shoes
  • Rucksack
  • Warm clothing to suit the British weather - hat, gloves, etc. --> It WILL be cold
  • Waterproofs (top and bottom)
  • Food and water for the day

Each person should also bring the following equipment (please let Tom know if you need to borrow any gear):

  • 2 Prusik’s (these are super cheap and I would recommend buying these for yourself - ask Tom if you need help)
  • Helmet
  • Harness
  • 4 screw gates
  • 1 quick draw
  • 2 x 120cm slings
  • 1x belay device
No climbing shoes needed

I will also make sure there is

  • 1x SINGLE climbing rope per pair
