Event info

For those looking to boost their outdoor skills, we've booked a first aid course for you guys in mid-february!

It's a two day course in Remote Outdoor First Aid, and covers all the requirements for Mountain Training / BMC awards if anyone is pursuing those (plus loads of other NGBs for other sports) and would also be really useful for those after extra skills when they're at the crag themselves. Assessment is ongoing during the course and you'll get a certificate that lasts 3 years.

The course covers the following, with an emphasis on dealing with them when outdoors and in climbing situations:

  • Hazards & dangers in the mountain environment
  • Primary assessment
  • Recovery position
  • Resuscitation
  • Choking management
  • Control of bleeding
  • Clinical shock management
  • Management of an unconscious casualty
  • Secondary assessment
  • Major trauma
  • Head, chest & internal injury
  • Spinal recovery position
  • Hypothermia
  • Acute Mountain Sickness
  • Cold related injuries
  • Management of fractures
  • Common medical emergencies

With a large amount of subsidy, the price per head for club members is just £46! You will not find a course that covers this much, this cheap.

There's more info on the provider's website here. If you need any more info then email Mike or Pete!
