Event info

This is the first of potentially 2 first aid courses we are running this year for those people who want to enhance their outdoor skills.

The course runs over 2 days (9-5 each day), and provides all the requirements of Mountain Training / BMC Awards if anyone is after one (along with other NGB awards for different sports). Whilst also being useful for general skills out at the crag. Assessment is ongoing during the course with a certificate provided upon completion which is valid for 3 years.

The course covers the following, with an emphasis on dealing with them when outdoors and in climbing situations:

  • Hazards & dangers in the mountain environment
  • Primary assessment
  • Recovery position
  • Resuscitation
  • Choking management
  • Control of bleeding
  • Clinical shock management
  • Management of an unconscious casualty
  • Secondary assessment
  • Major trauma
  • Head, chest & internal injury
  • Spinal recovery position
  • Hypothermia
  • Acute Mountain Sickness
  • Cold related injuries
  • Management of fractures
  • Common medical emergencies

This course will be subsidised by the club making it much cheaper than going to any training body yourself.

Any further information can be found on the providers website here. Or alternatively feel free to contact Martin (safety@su-mc.org).
