Hello everyone,

Another busy couple of weeks for SUMC!

Pembroke

Almost 30 climbers made the trip over to Pembroke this weekend. Although the forecast was bleak, we headed out to Craig Caerfai and managed to get 1 or 2 climbs in each before the weather hit. However we made the most of the rest of the day by building dams on the beach, exploring caves and going on a very wet walk. Then it was back to the hut to dry everything off (with little success), games of Mafia, Pick up Sticks and knitting lessons.

On Sunday we donned our wet gear and headed to Carreg-y-Barcud. The weather was infinitely better and we all got going on the great climbs there, with send trains up Metamorphosis (HS 4b **), Beyond the Azimuth (E1 5b ***) and Yellow Wall (VS 4b *). Eager to make the most of the weather, people headed back down, blissfully ignoring the approaching darkness and tide. This of course led to both Sud and Ted getting wet feet and Luke VF having to second a run-out HVS traverse in the dark. Then it was off home, all feeling suitably weathered by the weekend.

Bouldering Reset

Over the weekend of the 18th and 19th we were busy resetting the university bouldering wall. So  head down and try the new problems that have been set for you all. Otto and Spooner also set up some circuits for you to follow, find details about these by the door (on your right as you head in).

Socials

My favourite social of the year: Climbing Films Night! From 8 til late we watched all my heroes crushing the hardest climbs in the world. Particular highlights were Pete Whittaker’s ring finger mono on cobra crack, Adam Ondra’s 9b+ drop knees and witnessing Chris Sharma’s Fitness.
