Newsletter 07/10/2014

Hello everyone, welcome along to our first weekly newsletter! We're hoping from now on to bring you all of the club's news in one neatly wrapped package. And this being the start of term, we've got loads for you this week...

Cotswold Social

Next Thursday (16th October) we've got a private evening over at cotswold in Hedge End, for all your new climbing gear needs. There'll be loads of staff and opinionated SUMC members on hand to help you out too! And of course you'll have the standard SUMC 20% discount on everything full price.

We'll be organising cars and minibuses to get over there, for which we'll ask for the measly contribution of £1. we'll be meeting at uni at 1730, should be backl by 2030 at the very latest. To help orgnanise things, there's a signup live on the website, please sign up as soon as possible if you want to be there so we can get enough transport organised.

White T-Shirt Jesters Takeover

Also next Thursday is our White T-Shirt Jesters fundraiser. Tickets cost £2 and are available from Alex (see the facebook event https://www.facebook.com/events/1461757334088417/?fref=ts). All the money from the tickets we sell goes straight back into the club, so share with and invite all your friends!

Second Freshers' Meet

Can't believe one Freshers' Meet has already gone by, it was such a good weekend and hopefully you guys coming this weekend will have just as much fun. For old club members, if Robin has you down to help out over the weekend then you will have a space to get there. If anyone else is driving up, please let Ben know on meets@su-mc.org. The hut is the same as last weekend, Gorsey Brigg, Dronfield, S18 8UE.

Freshers! If you're registered to come this weekend, you should get an email with more info in the next 24 hours. Important details for now though are we'll be meeting on the Redbrick at 1730 on Friday. For info on what to bring, check out the meets info page on the website (https://su-mc.org/resources/meets-info/) and if you've any more queries then drop us an email.

Skills Corner

Every week, we're going to try and bring you some of the highlights of the mountain of climbing resources on the internet (plus a few blogs of our own) to give you guys a chance to improve your skills and stay safe at the crag.

Just a quick one this week, especially useful for those coming this weekend. This excellent little article from UKC explains how we can just turn up to a crag and climb it using all of our own equipment. If you're a Fresher and have no idea what a 'leader' or 'seconder' is, then check it out, this is exactly how you'll be climbing as a team this weekend! http://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/page.php?id=628

This email is far too long already, so we'll leave it there. What an awesome couple of weeks we've got coming up! Hopefully see you all around soon!
