It's coming to that time of year again when we get to meet lots of lovely new faces..... FRESHERS!!
This is everything we will be getting up to over the next few weeks.
Wed 28th September, 10:30am-17:00pm, Union Southampton Building
This is the big event when all the clubs and societies of the university will be waiting for all the super keen freshers to come and sign-up. If you want to know about the club come along, grab a flyer, and have a chat with us. Our committee will be wearing black and neon tops this year, standing under a large sign that looks like a climbing wall. But if you don't fancy the queues, there should be some people outside on the grass with a slackline setup
Sat 1st October, 10am-6pm, Redbrick outside Union building
If you're not sure about climbing and want to come and give it a go this is your chance! We have an 8m climbing wall setup on the redbrick area, so you don't even have to travel any further than campus to find us. This event is completely free for all students and does not require any experience of equipment as we provide it all. (Although sensible shoes would be needed) Additionally, we will be showing people the union's bouldering wall incase you were wondering what or where it was!
Wed 5th October, 7:30pm start, Physics Lecture Theatre A, 46/3001
This is one of the best social events of the year! Firstly, we will give a quick presentation about the club, what we do, where we go and what else you can get from being a member. You can signup to the club and one of our infamous Freshers' Meets. Straight afterwards we will be heading out to Portswood for an Olympics-themed night of fun, which is the best way to introduce yourself to the people of SUMC!
Additionally this year, we are holding a BBQ on Southampton Common on 8th October at 13:00 (just North of The Cowherds, look for the people falling off a slackline). Everyone is welcome to come along and say hello. Ideal if you're not keen on alcohol or have other plans on the Wednesday.
Fri 14th (5:30pm) to Sun 16th (late!) October, The Peak District
Fri 21th (5:30pm) to Sun 23th (late!) October, The Peak District
These are the two weekends we have dedicated towards new climbers and if you want to try yourselves at a bit of traditional climbing you'll want to come along. All novices are paired up with our more experienced members who show you how we do what we do, with the added benefit of having one of the most beautiful places in the UK as the backdrop! You can do as much or as little climbing as you like and there is no requirement to know anything about the sport beforehand or bring any of your own equipment. (Although general outdoor equipment may be useful, see meets info) You'll have to signup at the freshers' presentation as these are highly sought after events!
